Ni bezonas apartan esperantan projekton (eo.wikisource.org)

Por povi krei ligilojn al la esperanta Wikisource, necesas aparta pagxaro (eo.wikipedia.org) anstataux la nuna komuna. Por povi gxin establi, oni tamen bezonas kelkajn redaktontojn, pretajn fojfoje dedicxi iom da tempo por la projekto. Kiam mi rigardis la esperantan Wikibooks, mi vidis, ke multaj tute ne konas malsamojn de cxi tiuj du projektoj kaj ankaux finfaritajn, iam ecx eldonitajn librojn alsxutas tien.

Bonvolu aldoni sian nomon tiuj, kiuj pretas igxi kunlaborantoj por la aparta esperanta projekto (precipe spertuloj pri Metaviki estas bonvenigataj, mi persone nur ege superfice la projekton komprenas):

Vikinovaĵoj

La 13-an de novembro, Vikinovaĵoj akiris propran lokon kaj estas lanĉita je http://eo.wikinews.org. Ĝi estas projekto de la Fondaĵo Vikimedio celanta provizi liberan novaĵretejon. La unua novaĵo en esperantlingva versio estis publikigita la 27-an de februaro 2010, ĉe Kovilo. Dum dek monatoj, la Lingva Komitato de Meta-Vikio diskutis kaj aprobis ke la projekto uzu sian propran subdomajnon.

Ni invitas vin kunlabori ankaŭ en tiu frata projekto de Vikifontaro. Ni invitas vin verki artikolojn por Vikinovaĵoj pri temoj, kiuj gravas al vi, interesas vin, aŭ laŭ via opinio, estas tro malkonataj en aliaj novaĵo-fontoj. Por lerni kiel verki artikolojn en Vikinovaĵoj, legu Vikinovajxoj:Vikinovajxoj bezonas vin. Por babili aŭ opinii pri la projekto, vi povas uzi nian Redaktejon. Pri kreo de nova kategorio

Saluton! Mi estas novulo en Vikifontaro kaj laboras pri Fabloj de I. A. Krilov. Mi provis krei novan kategorion Category:Fablo kiu estu subkategorio de Category:Fikcio. (Mi rimarkas, ke estas jam Category:Fabelo sed fabelo kaj fablo estas, kompreneble, malsamaj aferoj.) Do, mi havas kelkajn demandojn:

• Ĉu estas gvidlinioj en Esperanto pri la kreado kaj uzo de kategorioj? (Se ne mi verŝajne devos rigardi iujn en mia nacia lingvo, la angla, se mi povas ilin trovi.)

Pri forigo de nedezirata kategorio

Saluton denove. Sur Nevola mortiginto mi iel alligis la kategorion por la sinhala lingvo kiu neniel rilatas al Nevola mortiginto. Mi ne scias kiel ĝi ligiĝis kaj ĝis nun mi ne sukcesis ĝin forigi de Nevola mortiginto. Kiel mi forigu ĝin? Ĉu vi havas ideon pri kio mi (mis)faris por ĝin alligi? Kiel planite mi redaktis MediaWiki:Common.js‎ kaj enkondukis la funkciojn interwikiExtra kaj BilingualLink kiuj ebligas respektive informi kiu el alilingvaj versioj estas la originala (per {{Interwiki-info}} kaj montri unu apud la alian versiojn en du lingvoj. Index pages not working

Hi, sorry for writing in English. It seems that your Index pages are not working after being imported from oldwikisource. I ran into the same problem on vec.source, you should change MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index attributes using English names of parameters, like I did on vec:MediaWiki:Proofreadpage_index_attributes. Mine is just the shortest way, not the only one: if you choose to translate parameter names you have to translate the index template and obviously the index pages too (but probably here there are just a few of them). Candalua 09:03, 29 Jun. 2011 (UTC)

Ŝablono:Babel

Saluton. Antaŭ kelkaj tagoj mi transprenis kelkajn babelajn ŝablonoj el la esperanto-vikipedio. Nun {{Babel}} funkcias kiel en la vikipedio. Kaj ekde nun eĉ {{Babel-N}} devus funkcii same bone. Eble ni iom post iom kreu pliajn laŭlingvajn ŝablonojn. Sed por ke ili funkciu kune kun ambaŭ babelaj ŝablonoj, ili devus sekvi la nomskemon "Ŝablono:Uzanto temo". Watchlist bug / Cimo kun personaj specialaĵoj

CandalBot

Laŭ la permeso sur la uzantpaĝo de la roboto, mi proponas robotan flagon por CandalBot. CandalBot korektas interlingvajn ligilojn en multaj Vikifontaroj, havas robotan flagon en 7 projektoj kaj ĵus ricevis globalan robotan flagon.

Alia demando: Ĉu ni volas ebligi la globalajn robotojn en ĉi tiu projekto? Se jes, CandalBot kaj aliaj globalaj robotoj povus labori ĉi tie sen loka flago. Jafeluv 10:13, 7 Sep. 2011 (UTC)

(en) According to the permission on the bot's userpage, I propose a bot flag for CandalBot. CandalBot corrects interlanguage links in many Wikisources, has a bot flag in 7 projects and has just received a global bot flag.

Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

• Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
• New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
• The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
• Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
• Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
• Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
• The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
• More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
• Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
• Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
• Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Wsexport: an automatic export tool for Wikisource

Hello, and first sorry for this automatic delivery message.

An export tool for Wikisource books, Wsexport, is currently in active development. It is a tool for exporting Wikisource's texts in EPUB, ODT and other file formats. It was created for French Wikisource, but it's also available for the other Wikisource subdomains. It can be used directly from its page on Toolserver.org (for texts in all languages, use "www" for oldwikisource), or browsing http://wsexport.fr.nf (currently only for French Wikisource's texts).

In order to work, the tool need some configuration from your Wikisource subdomain, This page explains how to do it. Currently French, Italian, English, and German Wikisource does it.

Hello Esperanto Wikisource editors,
congratulations, today it is now 1 year since the eo.wikisource.org subdomain was created. From the Wikimedia Language Committee, we would like to get some feedback from newer wikis about their situation.

We prepared some questions about what we would like to know. Feel free to answer as many of them as you like.

1. How has activity developed after the subdomain's creation? (in comparision with the situation on www.wikisource.org)
2. Is it now easier to be found by new users?
3. Would you have done something in a better/different way in hindsight?

Ĉu eblas ŝanĝi la nomon de Vikifontaro al "Viklioteko" (viki + biblioteko)? Estas neologismo kiel Vikipedio (viki + enciklopedio). Mi zorgas, ke oni ne scios kion nia paĝaro enhavas--ekzemple oni eble pensos, ke nia paĝaro enhavas fontkodon! "Viklioteko" estas multe pli taŭga. Update on IPv6

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

• At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)

• In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.

• We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

Read the full version of this announcement on how to test the behavior of IPv6 with various tools and how to leave bug reports, and to find a fuller analysis of the implications of the IPv6 migration.

Help decide about more than $10 million of Wikimedia donations in the coming year

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Now, seven capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy community members are sought to volunteer on the initial Funds Dissemination Committee. It is expected to take up its work in September. In addition, a community member is sought to be the Ombudsperson for the FDC process. If you are interested in joining the committee, read the call for volunteers. Nominations are planned to close on August 15.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

Fundraising localization: volunteers from outside the USA needed

Hello All,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. **All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be very low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)**

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. If you are interested (or know of anyone who could be) please email ppena@wikimedia.org. All countries needed (excepting USA)!!

Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) Next week, the Wikimedia Foundation will transition its main technical operations to a new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, USA. This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There will be some times when the site will be in read-only mode, and there may be full outages; the current target windows for the migration are January 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 17:00 to 01:00 UTC (see other timezones on timeanddate.com). Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.

If you have questions about how to convert existing templates to Lua (or how to create new ones), we'll be holding two support sessions on IRC next week: one on Wednesday (for Oceania, Asia & America) and one on Friday (for Europe, Africa & America); see m:IRC office hours for the details. There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

Wikisource vision development: News April 2013

Dear Wikisourcerors, it has been almost a month since we have started with the Elaborate Wikisource strategic vision grant and we would like to share some news with you:

• The Wikisource vision development pages are open to discussion. Specially important: what do you think of creating together an international Wikisource User Group?
• In case some Wikisources want to use Wikidata to store book metadata and share it with Commons, we have started Wikidata:Books task force to decide which properties are needed. We think it's very important to discuss book metadata there, both for Wikisource and for all other projects.
• We also started some relevant Requests for Comments for Wikisource:
  • Interproject links interface: how can we improve sister projects visibility?
  • Musical score transcription project proposal: now that Extension:Score allows musical scores both in Wikipedia and in Wikisource (example 1, example 2), we need to define where we want music sheets to be hosted.
• We are following and promoting a Google Summer of Code project for Wikisource: Improve support for book structures. We are also helping to convert the UploadWizard customisation for books proposal into another GSoC.
• First contacts have been initiated with Open Library, Internet Archive and Open Knowledge Foundation for possible partnerships. Please check out this page.

And that's it for now! During the month of May, we (Aubrey and Micru) would like to organize at least one Skype or Google Hangout meeting for the users of each one of the 10 biggest wikisources plus another one or two for the other languages (depending on interest). We want to know your opinion on what Wikisource should become in the next years.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

Recent software changes

• The latest version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf4) was added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 13, and to the English Wikipedia (with a Wikidata software update) on May 20. It will be updated on all other Wikipedia sites on May 22. [4] [5]
• A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [6]
• MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [7]
• VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [8]
• A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [9]
• New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [10] [11]
• The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates. [12]
• The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [13]

Future software changes

• The next version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf5) will be added to Wikimedia sites starting on May 27. [14]
• An updated version of Notifications, with new features and fewer bugs, will be added to the English Wikipedia on May 23. [15]
• The final version of the "single user login" (which allows people to use the same username on different Wikimedia wikis) is moved to August 2013. The software will automatically rename some usernames. [16]
• A new discussion system for MediaWiki, called "Flow", is under development. Wikimedia designers need your help to inform other users, test the prototype and discuss the interface. [17].
• The Wikimedia Foundation is hiring people to act as links between software developers and users for VisualEditor. [18]
